FOUND Sound: Call for Submissions!

May 12th, 2008

Do YOU have any FOUND bits of audio sitting around collecting dust? Maybe an old answering machine tape, voicemail, or band demo that you’d like to share with the rest of the world? Well … we might have just the place for it!

We’re working with our friends from RapHappy to have a great place to share the random audio bits online.  Basically, you can either mail your tape to us (at PO Box 491, New York, NY, 10012-9998 ) or submit a digitized audio version to us (check the EZ Uploading window and digitizing tips here.

The project hasn’t officially launched just yet (if you’re in NYC, don’t forget to drop by the release party!), but why not go and check out the teasers we’ve got up so far?

Loved the teasers. I had a little something random to send. I tried to upload my file on the EZ uploading page, but how do I go about doing that? There is no submit or upload button!

What about sounds that we find and record? Like if you find a bowl or something that sounds weird when you hit it or something that you can play music on that people usually don’t expect to be musical.

Sara: The submit button will appear once you’ve selected a file with the little “Browse” button. Can’t wait to hear.

Elizabeth: I think field recordings are totally fine–especially recordings of weird-sounding bowls. or like if the people at the table next to you are having really explicit dinner conversation, you should be totally comfortably with secretly recording them.

A submit or upload button doesn’t appear when I select a file, it just stays at browse. Should I send the mp3 as a zip or rar file?

I’m still not seeing a submit button even after I browse for a file. Can we email entries if they aren’t too big?

Oh, wonderful! This sounds like a worthy use for my awesome found sounds. I’ll have to remember to upload them the next time I’m on my home computer.
